Harper Collins Publishing Company announces “Living Well with Parkinson’s Disease” - a book by Gretchen Garie & Michael J. Church, Co-founders of MOVERS & SHAKERS~ A National Young Onset Parkinson Disease Organization. in conjunction with Winifred Conkling.

“This is not going to be your typical book about Parkinson’s Disease.” stated Gretchen. “We wanted a book that reflected our commitment to outreach, advocacy, and education of others facing this disease. However, we also wanted to produce a book that had heart and soul, and gave a voice to those affected.”

The book, part of an ongoing series that HARPER COLLINS publishes, called the LIVING WELL WITH… Series, will have first person accounts, stories, and thoughts throughout the book. Michael and Gretchen made it clear that this book was not just THEIR book, so there are many others whose voices will be heard throughout the book.

“Living Well with Parkinson‘s Disease” covers many aspects of LIVING with Parkinson’s. Michael Church states, “We wanted a book that not only answers the basic questions about the disease, treatment, and issues facing those with PD, but also to give hope that there IS LIFE with Parkinson’s. That has been the message we try to incorporate in our work with Movers & Shakers, as well as our other efforts in the PD Community.”

Both Michael and Gretchen have Parkinson’s disease. They founded Movers & Shakers, six years ago, in an attempt to reach others who were going through the process of dealing with PD. Michael and Gretchen also devote time to PARKINSON ACTION NETWORK, the advocating organization for the PD community, as coordinators for the state of Florida. The couple has been together for five years and were married in March of this year. Between the two of them they have five children.
